Morton Family & Criminal Law is a Connecticut firm built around two kinds of work that usually sit in separate buildings: contested family litigation, and criminal defense of charges arising from domestic and family violence.
That combination is deliberate. A separation and an arrest frequently arrive in the same month, involving the same people and the same disputed night, and they proceed in two courthouses on two schedules. Handled separately by lawyers who have never spoken, the two cases work against each other. Handled together, they can at least be made to account for one another.
The firm is a litigation practice. Most family matters settle, and negotiating well is part of the work. But the leverage to settle well comes from being prepared to try the case, and the firm is organized around motion practice, hearings, and trial preparation rather than around avoiding them. The firm does not offer neutral mediation services.
The criminal practice is deliberately narrow. It covers Connecticut criminal matters arising from a domestic or family violence incident. It does not extend to unrelated DUI, drug, theft, or other charges. Keeping it limited is what allows it to sit alongside the family practice instead of competing with it for attention.
The firm is in Glastonbury, where Attorney Morton grew up, and serves Greater Hartford and Central Connecticut — with family matters heard in the Hartford Judicial District and family violence matters at G.A. 12 in Manchester.
Every case starts with a conversation about what you’re facing and what it would take to handle it.
